Searching for a Geely EX5 at a French dealership returns nothing. The car exists, it has been on sale since spring 2026, and prices start at 37,990 euros.

The explanation comes down to a single letter. What Europe type-approves as the EX5 is sold in France as the E5, and that gap is enough to break a search on a dealer website or a classified ads platform.

In short:

  1. The SUV sold in France as the Geely E5 is the same car as the EX5 type-approved for the European market, as the manufacturer’s own product page confirms; the brand applies the same rule to the EX2, sold as the E2
  2. The authorised network listed 42 sales points with a full address on the official locator on 28 August 2026, 5 of them in the Paris region
  3. No other channel exists: zero listings for this model on AutoScout24 France on 28 August 2026, and no broker carries it, with Elite-Auto listing 84 brands including BYD and MG but no Geely
  4. Three trim levels, from 37,990 euros (Pro) to 41,990 euros (Max+), with no ecological bonus, plus a factory lease at 299 euros per month that adds up to 18,953 euros over 48 months

The Geely EX5 is sold in France as the E5

The manufacturer’s official product page sits at geelyauto.fr/models/geely-e5-electric-suv. The French commercial name is therefore E5, without the X, for a model the brand introduced to Europe as the EX5.

The renaming is no isolated slip. The second model in the range, known internationally as the EX2, appears on the French price list as the E2, with its own pre-booking page. The brand has adopted an X-free naming convention across its entire electric range for France.

The dual naming persists in the specialist press. On 29 April 2026 Turbo ran the headline “Nouveau Geely EX5: à partir de 37 990 € en France” while describing the car, in its opening line, as “le SUV électrique Geely E5”. Both names sit in the same article.

Google keeps the confusion alive too. The French results page for buying the car shows a related question worded exactly as “Quel est le prix d’une Geely EX5 neuve en France?”, even though no French distributor sells under that name. AutoScout24 has solved the problem its own way: the search address /lst/geely/ex5 redirects automatically to /lst/geely/e5.

The practical consequence for a buyer is simple. A search on EX5 leads to press coverage and the European site, a search on E5 leads to sales points. Both refer to the same 4.62 m car, with a 60.2 kWh usable LFP battery and 475 km of WLTP range.

The authorised network is the only purchase channel

On most electric SUVs in this segment, four channels compete for the buyer. On this model, only one answers in August 2026.

The absence of brokers deserves an explanation, because it is structural rather than temporary. Elite-Auto, one of the largest French players in the field, listed 84 brands on 28 August 2026, including the Chinese BYD and MG, and no Geely. The brand requires its distributors to run an exclusive showroom of at least 250 sq m and bars them from sharing floor space with BYD, MG or Chery. A broker, whose whole business rests on carrying every brand, structurally cannot meet that condition.

That lock has a direct effect on price. On a rival electric SUV, broker discounts commonly reach 15 to 20 percent off list. Here the import price applies across all 42 sales points with no alternative, which turns the question into picking the best Geely dealer in France rather than arbitraging between distribution channels.

Where the Geely network actually stands in France

The manufacturer’s official locator showed 42 entries with a complete address on 28 August 2026. Coverage is far from even.

All five sites in the Paris region are run by the Como group, the only distributor for the brand in the area, which lists them on its own website as Geely Vélizy, Geely Colombes, Geely Bastille, Geely Fontenay and Geely Pontoise. The manufacturer’s locator says nothing of the sort: its entries are named Geely plus a city and never identify the group behind the counter. A buyer comparing two addresses on the official site has no way of knowing they are dealing twice with the same distributor.

Openings continue at pace. Geely Auto France targeted 70 sales points by the end of 2026, and around ten distributor groups have already joined. The map at year end will not look like today’s, which is worth checking before giving up for lack of a nearby dealer.

EX5 pricing, trim by trim

The French range has three levels, all fitted with the same 215 hp motor and the same 60.2 kWh usable battery.

TrimPriceWLTP rangeCharging power
Pro37,990 euros475 km160 kW
Pro+39,990 euros475 km160 kW
Max+41,990 euros475 km160 kW

The 4,000 euro gap between the two ends of the range therefore covers equipment alone, never the drivetrain or the range figure. That marks a clear difference with the same maker’s Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid, whose trim levels move battery capacity from 18.4 to 29.8 kWh and with it the electric car range quoted on the price list.

On paper the positioning is aggressive. In its 29 April 2026 review, Turbo noted that a Tesla Model Y starts at 41,990 euros with a comparable battery, and a Renault Scénic at around 42,000 euros for 429 km of range. Both qualify for the ecological bonus, which the Chinese SUV cannot claim.

Charging sits in the middle of the segment without leading it: 20 minutes from 30 to 80 percent on a rapid charger, an 11 kW onboard AC charger, and two discharge functions, V2L capped at 3.3 kW and V2V at 6 kW.

The 299 euro monthly lease and what it really costs

The manufacturer promotes a long-term lease at 299 euros per month including tax. The conditions sit at the foot of its product page, and they change how that figure reads.

The offer covers the E5 Pro trim, over 48 months and 40,000 km, meaning 47 payments of 299 euros after an initial payment of 4,900 euros. Finance is provided by Drivalia Lease France, the offer is limited to private buyers and runs until 30 September 2026, while stocks last.

The full calculation gives 4,900 euros plus 47 times 299 euros, or 18,953 euros over four years. At the end of that term the car goes back to the lessor: this lease carries no option to buy, unlike a lease-purchase agreement.

Two details deserve attention before signing. The initial payment differs from one model to the next: 4,900 euros on the E5 against 3,500 euros on the Starray EM-i, for an identical monthly figure. The second concerns paint: the car shown on the official page, with metallic paint, moves to 316 euros per month on the same terms, adding 799 euros over the life of the contract.

Why the Starray turns up used and the EX5 does not

Both models in the range reached France at the same time, yet their second-hand markets bear no resemblance.

On 28 August 2026, AutoScout24 showed 6 Geely listings for the whole of France, across every model, and none for the E5. The Starray EM-i appeared from 28,990 euros with 10 km on the clock, a June 2026 registration and the Pro trim, in other words a demonstrator sold 6,000 euros below its list price.

The imbalance comes down to the nature of the fleet. The first cars to return to market from a newly arrived manufacturer are not used cars in the usual sense, they are demonstrators and tactical registrations that the network moves on. The Starray, which arrived first and in greater numbers, has already produced some; the electric SUV has not.

For a buyer the consequence is immediate. No route exists to pay less than the import price for this model in August 2026, whereas picking a Geely Starray dealer can still hinge on an available demonstrator. Importing does not help either, as the detailed calculation for buying a Geely Starray in Europe shows: once French VAT applies, the gap between countries shrinks or reverses.

With no ecological bonus, everything happens at the order desk

The model qualifies for no government support. The 2026 scheme requires an Ademe environmental score covering the full life cycle, including manufacturing, battery and transport, a threshold a car assembled in China does not reach. The two other conditions, a price below 47,000 euros including tax and a mass below 2,400 kg, are met.

That absence shifts the whole ground of the negotiation. On an eligible model, public support absorbs part of the commercial effort and the final price varies little between sales points. Here the discount, the trade-in value of the outgoing car and the size of the initial lease payment all come out of the conversation with the distributor.

Three points are worth checking at the order desk. Allocation lead time first, which depends on the quota granted to that sales point rather than national stock. Availability of a demonstrator second, since not every showroom has one yet. Registration cost last, which falls to the buyer and is calculated on the regional tax horsepower rate, a line item covered in the guide to vehicle registration costs.

One question the price list does not settle remains: the warranty, advertised at up to 8 years, attaches to the car, but claiming it assumes an approved workshop within reasonable reach. With 42 addresses for the whole country, the network map weighs as much in the decision as the spec sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Where can you buy a Geely EX5 in France?

Only through the authorised Geely Auto France dealer network, which listed 42 sales points with a full address on the official locator on 28 August 2026. The model is not sold online, through a broker, or on the used market: on 28 August 2026, AutoScout24 showed no listing at all for it in France, new or used. The authorised network is therefore the only real purchase channel, which sets the EX5 apart from most electric SUVs in its segment.

Are the Geely EX5 and the Geely E5 the same car?

Yes. The SUV type-approved as the EX5 for Europe is sold in France as the E5, as shown by the official page at geelyauto.fr/models/geely-e5-electric-suv. The brand applies the same rule to its other model, the EX2, sold as the E2. Searching for a Geely EX5 at a French dealership therefore returns nothing under that name, even though the car is on the price list.

How much does a new Geely EX5 cost in France?

The range has three trim levels, from 37,990 euros for the Pro to 39,990 euros for the Pro+ and 41,990 euros for the Max+. These prices come with no government support: the model qualifies for no ecological bonus, as its assembly in China keeps it below the environmental score required by the 2026 scheme.

Can a Geely EX5 be leased instead of bought?

Geely Auto France advertises a long-term lease at 299 euros per month including tax on the E5 Pro trim, over 48 months and 40,000 km, after an initial payment of 4,900 euros. The finance is provided by Drivalia Lease France and the offer runs until 30 September 2026. Total cost comes to 18,953 euros over four years, and this lease carries no purchase option at the end of the term.

Where can you test drive a Geely EX5 near Paris?

Five Geely sales points are listed in the Paris region on the official locator: Colombes, Fontenay-sous-Bois, Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône, Vélizy-Villacoublay and central Paris. All five are run by the Como group, the only distributor for the brand in the region, a fact the manufacturer’s locator does not mention since it names its entries as Geely plus a city, never the group operating the site.

Why are there no used Geely EX5 cars for sale?

Because the model only reached the French price list in spring 2026, leaving no time for a used fleet to build up. The contrast with the Starray EM-i is stark: on 28 August 2026 that model was listed from 28,990 euros with 10 km on the clock, while the E5 appeared in no listing at all. A buyer targeting this model therefore has no alternative to the official import price.
